How the Phone Assessment Works
The S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. question bank contains approximately 240 possible questions based on the assigned training lessons. Applicants are not asked all 240 questions.
During the phone assessment, each applicant receives 10 questions selected randomly according to a fixed category distribution.
Title | Description |
|---|---|
Total | 10 |
Professional growth and modern readiness | 1 |
Sustainability | 1 |
Business and financial skills | 1 |
Customer communication | 1 |
Professionalism and ethics | 1 |
Safety and risk prevention | 2 |
Safety and risk prevention | 2 |
Earth Care procedures | 3 |
The same category distribution applies to each applicant, although the individual questions may differ.
A successful attempt currently requires all 10 questions to be answered correctly.
Is the Assessment Mainly About Memorizing Phone Numbers and Acronyms?
No. The assessment is not primarily a phone-number or acronym test.
Three of the 10 questions concern Earth Care procedures. Those questions may include operational sequences, support departments, current contact information, documentation requirements, or what a professional should do during an Earth Care work order.
The remaining seven questions cover broader safety, ethics, communication, financial, sustainability, and professional-readiness concepts.
Applicants are not always required to repeat course language word for word. An answer may be accepted when it accurately explains the correct action, principle, and professional reasoning.
Applicants should understand what an acronym or procedure means and how it applies rather than memorizing letters without understanding the underlying concept.
Is the Assessment Designed to Trick Applicants?
The assessment is not designed to trick applicants. Its purpose is to confirm that participating professionals reviewed the assigned training and can apply its major principles to realistic service, safety, customer, and business situations.
Questions may be stated differently from the wording used in the lessons. Scenario questions may require applicants to explain what should happen first, what should happen next, and why the response is safe, ethical, or professional.
Because every question must currently be answered correctly, applicants should prepare carefully and practice explaining concepts aloud before scheduling the assessment.
What Applicants Said About the Difficulty
In a voluntary feedback survey containing 186 responses:
-
87 respondents, or 46.8%, rated the training and testing as easy.
-
98 respondents, or 52.7%, selected “in between—not easy or hard.”
-
1 respondent, or approximately 0.5%, selected hard.
Why Some Applicants May Struggle
Applicants may struggle when they focus only on company phone numbers or acronyms instead of studying the complete training.
Other common difficulties include:
-
Memorizing phrases without understanding the principle
-
Ignoring safety, communication, financial, or professional-development lessons
-
Giving a vague answer without explaining the first required action
-
Failing to identify when work should stop because of a hazard
-
Confusing gross payment with net profit
-
Accepting work outside one’s qualifications
-
Forgetting that additional work requires approval
-
Assuming that every third-party opportunity has been independently verified

What Happens If the Audio Is Unclear?
Applicants should tell the assessor immediately when they cannot hear or understand a question because of audio quality, connection problems, or background noise.
The assessor may repeat the question without changing its substance. An applicant should not be marked incorrect merely because a verified connection or audio problem prevented the question from being heard.
When the call quality prevents the assessment from being completed fairly, the appointment may be stopped and rescheduled.
-
Use a quiet location
-
Fully charge their phone
-
Check cellular or internet reception
-
Avoid speakerphone when it creates echo
-
Ask for a repetition immediately
-
Not guess when they did not hear the question
Can Questions Be Repeated or Clarified?
An assessor may repeat a question when the applicant did not hear it clearly.
The assessor may clarify an unfamiliar word or restate the question without providing the answer. The assessor cannot coach the applicant, identify the correct lesson, or supply hints that would change what the question measures.
What Happens If You Do Not Pass?
An unsuccessful attempt does not necessarily mean that an applicant lacks trade experience. The assessment measures understanding of the assigned S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. material and Earth Care procedures.
What the Assessment Does Not Prove
The S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. phone assessment does not certify that a person is technically qualified in every trade.
It does not replace:
-
Occupational licensing
-
Trade-specific certifications
-
Hands-on experience
-
Tool verification
-
Background or identity screening
-
Insurance requirements
-
Local permit or code requirements
-
Other onboarding or qualification steps
Its purpose is to assess professional readiness, safety judgment, communication, ethical decision-making, financial understanding, and knowledge of Earth Care procedures.
Is the Training Fee a Subscription?
Earth Care’s current $47 platform setup payment is a one-time payment, not a monthly training subscription.
The payment supports platform access, onboarding, training and certification resources, professional tools, and other included features. It does not purchase or guarantee a particular job, customer, assignment, number of hours, or amount of earnings.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many questions are on the phone assessment?
Each applicant receives 10 randomly selected questions from the S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. assessment bank.
Do all applicants receive the same questions?
No. Individual questions may differ, but every assessment follows the same category distribution.
Do I need to memorize every question in the study guide?
No. Applicants should understand the major principles and be able to explain how they apply. The study guide does not contain every possible question or every acceptable answer.
Can I use notes during the assessment?
No. The current assessment rules do not allow applicants to read from the study guide, personal notes, another device, or an outside source during the live assessment.
Do I need to answer word for word?
Not always. The answer must communicate the correct principle, required action, and professional reasoning.
Why must 9/10 questions be correct?
The current passing standard is intended to confirm understanding across every required category, including safety and Earth Care operating procedures. Earth Care periodically reviews applicant feedback and assessment results to determine whether the standard and question design remain appropriate.
Is the test intended to prevent applicants from obtaining work?
No. The assessment is a professional-readiness requirement and is not designed to block qualified applicants from accessing the platform. Passing the assessment does not itself guarantee that work will be available.
What should I do if I cannot hear the assessor?
Tell the assessor immediately and ask for the question to be repeated. Do not guess when an audio or connection problem prevents you from hearing the question.
Is the assessment a trade license?
No. It does not replace occupational licensing, technical certifications, hands-on qualifications, or local legal requirements.
