How Much Is a Middleman Costing You?

When a marketplace takes a percentage from every job, that fee comes directly out of the money you worked to earn. A $40 deduction may not seem overwhelming on one project, but repeated deductions can add up to hundreds or even thousands of dollars over time.

The Earth Care Direct-Payment Comparison Tool helps you estimate how much more of your client pay could stay in your pocket when you work with Earth Care instead of a platform that deducts a percentage from every job.

Enter the client payment, select a typical middleman deduction between 10% and 30%, and choose how many jobs you want to compare. The tool will calculate:

  • How much another marketplace might deduct

  • How much the pro would receive after the deduction

  • How much the pro keeps through Earth Care

  • How much those avoided deductions could add up to across multiple jobs

Keep More of the Money You Earn

With Earth Care, the client pays the pro directly. Earth Care does not take a percentage from the payment the client makes directly to the pro.

That means Earth Care does not deduct:

  • Per-job fees from client pay

  • Lead fees from client pay

  • Booking or service fees from client pay

  • Advertising fees from client pay

  • Monthly membership fees from client pay

  • A percentage of what the client pays the pro

When a client pays you $200, Earth Care does not take $20, $40, or $60 from that payment. The client pays you directly, and you keep 100% of the client payment.

Why Middleman Fees Matter

Percentage-based marketplace fees can affect both pros and customers. When a platform takes a large portion of every payment, pros may have to raise their prices just to reach their desired take-home amount.

Higher prices may make it harder to win work, attract repeat customers, or compete with other service providers. Even when the customer pays more, the pro can still receive less after the marketplace takes its percentage.

Earth Care’s direct-payment model is designed to eliminate that conflict. The client can pay the pro directly without Earth Care taking a percentage from the pro’s client payment.

The More Jobs You Complete, the More You Could Keep

Consider a $200 client payment with a typical marketplace deduction of 20%.

The middleman deduction would be $40, leaving the pro with $160.

Across 10 similar jobs, the deductions would total $400. Across 25 jobs, they would total $1,000.

Because Earth Care does not take a percentage from client pay, the amount that stays in your pocket can grow with every completed job.

The calculator provides an illustrative comparison. Your actual earnings depend on the opportunities you accept, the work you complete, the compensation disclosed for each opportunity, your expenses, and the fees charged by any marketplace you are comparing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Earth Care Direct-Payment Comparison Tool?

The Earth Care Direct-Payment Comparison Tool shows how much a percentage-based marketplace might deduct from a pro’s client payments and compares that amount with Earth Care’s direct-payment model.

It helps pros visualize how much more of their client pay could stay in their pockets when Earth Care does not take a percentage from each job.

How does the Middleman Comparison Tool work?

Enter the amount the client will pay, select a typical marketplace deduction between 10% and 30%, and choose the number of jobs you want to compare.

The tool calculates the estimated middleman deduction, the amount the pro might receive after that deduction, and the amount the pro would keep when paid directly through an Earth Care opportunity.

What does direct client payment mean?

Direct client payment means the client pays the pro without sending the pro’s earnings through Earth Care first.

Earth Care does not collect the pro’s client payment, subtract a percentage, and then send the remaining balance to the pro.

Does Earth Care take a percentage of what the client pays me?

No. Earth Care does not take a percentage from the payment a client makes directly to the pro.

If the client pays the pro $200, Earth Care’s deduction from that client payment is $0.

Do pros keep 100% of their client payment?

Yes. Earth Care does not deduct a percentage or per-job fee from the payment the client makes directly to the pro.

Pros are still responsible for their own taxes, business expenses, insurance, equipment, transportation, and other independent-contractor obligations.

Does Earth Care charge a fee to apply?

No. Applying to Earth Care is free.

There is no charge to submit an application, check for opportunities in your area, use the Job Scheduler Tool, or use the Middleman Comparison Tool.

What is the Earth Care signup fee?

Earth Care charges a one-time signup fee when an accepted applicant chooses to join the platform.

The signup fee is not an application fee. It is not required merely to submit an application or use Earth Care’s free tools. It is also not deducted from individual client payments and is not a recurring monthly membership fee.

When would I pay the one-time signup fee?

The one-time signup fee applies after an applicant has been accepted and decides to move forward with joining the Earth Care platform.

Applicants can apply, check for opportunities, and use Earth Care’s free planning and comparison tools before deciding whether to join.

Are the Job Checker and Job Scheduler free?

Yes. The Earth Care Job Checker Tool and Earth Care Job Scheduler Tool are free to use.

The Job Checker helps applicants check for opportunities in or near their area. The Job Scheduler helps applicants visualize how Earth Care opportunities could fit around their current job, personal responsibilities, and preferred availability.

How much more could I keep with Earth Care?

The amount depends on the client payment and the percentage another marketplace would have deducted.

For example, a 20% deduction from a $200 payment equals $40. Earth Care does not take that $40 from the pro’s client payment.

Across 10 similar jobs, the difference would be $400. Across 25 similar jobs, the difference would be $1,000.

Do my potential savings increase as I complete more jobs?

Yes. Percentage-based fees are generally deducted repeatedly.

If another marketplace deducts $40 from every job, the total deduction would be $400 after 10 jobs and $2,000 after 50 jobs. Because Earth Care does not take that percentage from client pay, the potential amount kept increases with each completed job.

Does the calculator show guaranteed earnings?

No. The calculator is an illustrative comparison tool. It does not guarantee that a particular pro will receive a specific number of opportunities or earn a specific amount.

Actual earnings depend on the opportunities available, the work accepted and completed, the compensation disclosed for each opportunity, the pro’s expenses, and the fees charged by the marketplace being compared.

Does Earth Care guarantee that a particular customer will hire me?

No. Earth Care cannot guarantee that a particular customer will hire a particular pro.

Earth Care opportunities are generally individual service requests from homeowners, businesses, property managers, and other clients. They are not permanent job placements or guaranteed hours.

Pros choose which available opportunities they want to accept.

Can high middleman fees affect the amount of work a pro receives?

They can. When a marketplace deducts a large percentage, a pro may need to charge the customer more to reach the same take-home amount.

Higher prices may make some customers less likely to book or may make it more difficult for a pro to compete for repeat work. Earth Care’s direct-payment model helps pros avoid adding a percentage-based platform deduction to every client payment.

Does Earth Care hold or delay my client payment?

Earth Care does not handle the payment made directly from the client to the pro. Because the payment does not pass through Earth Care, Earth Care does not place a platform hold on those funds or deduct a percentage before releasing them.

Payment instructions and compensation details are disclosed with the opportunity.

Who pays me after I complete an Earth Care opportunity?

The client pays the pro directly according to the payment terms disclosed for the opportunity.

Earth Care does not pay the pro from a platform-held balance or subtract a percentage before the pro receives the client payment.

Can I decline an opportunity?

Yes. Pros may choose opportunities that match their skills, availability, preferred travel distance, and compensation requirements.

There is no penalty or acceptance-rate requirement for declining an opportunity. Once a pro accepts an Earth Care work order, that opportunity is not simultaneously given to multiple Earth Care pros.

Where can I check for opportunities near me?
