Frequently Asked Questions About the Earth Care Rent A Tech Application

Find answers to common questions about Earth Care Rent A Tech, available work opportunities, pay, experience requirements, scheduling, onboarding, qualifications, and how the platform works.

About Earth Care Rent A Tech

What is Earth Care Rent A Tech?

Earth Care Rent A Tech is a nationwide home-service platform originally founded in 1991. We connect qualified local service professionals with homeowners and businesses that need help with repairs, maintenance, moving, cleaning, landscaping, skilled trades, and related services.

Earth Care also provides Pros with professional training and certification resources, business and job-search tools, worker networking groups, a personalized professional profile, the Opportunity Center, Earth Care work-order alerts, and access to independent job opportunities as they become available.

Is Earth Care employment or independent-contractor work?

Earth Care Pros participate in the Earth Care platform as independent service professionals rather than employees of Earth Care.

The Opportunity Center may also provide access to independent third-party job boards, employers, apprenticeships, and other outside opportunities. Those opportunities are operated independently and may have their own employment status, qualifications, payment terms, and application requirements.

What kind of work is available?

Work opportunities may include general labor, moving help, loading and unloading, cleanup, demolition assistance, furniture assembly, junk removal, handyman services, home repairs, appliance installation, TV mounting, pressure washing, cleaning, landscaping, lawn care, and seasonal property maintenance.

Skilled-trade opportunities may also be available in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, drywall, flooring, framing, roofing, siding, tile, concrete, welding, window and door work, and other service categories.

Available opportunities vary by location, service category, customer demand, and time of year.

Why doesn’t Earth Care guarantee work or earnings?

Because flexibility works both ways.

Earth Care Rent A Tech was designed to give independent service providers more control over when, where, and how they work. Traditional employment often comes with assigned shifts, fixed schedules, required locations, and work that you may be expected to accept. We wanted to build something different.

With Earth Care, you can decide which opportunities make sense for you. You can consider factors such as:

Pay
Location and travel distance
Time of day
Type of work
Your skills and experience
Your personal schedule
Whether a particular project is simply a good fit for you

You are not expected to accept every opportunity, and declining an opportunity does not mean you have to give up the flexibility of the platform.

That freedom is also why we do not guarantee a certain number of jobs, hours, or earnings. A true earnings guarantee would generally require much greater control over your schedule, workload, assignments, and potentially how payments are handled. That is not the relationship we wanted to create.

Instead, our goal is to provide access to opportunities while leaving the decision to you. Actual opportunities can vary based on location, customer demand, service category, timing, qualifications, and the criteria you choose for the work you are willing to accept.

We want pros to have room to try new types of work, develop their skills, grow as service providers, and build a working life that fits their individual goals  rather than having Earth Care dictate what that working life must look like.

In short: we provide the opportunity and support; you keep the freedom to decide what works for you.

Pay, Scheduling, and Choosing Opportunities

How am I paid?

For Earth Care work orders, compensation and project details are disclosed before you accept the opportunity.

Pros are paid directly by the client after completing the agreed work. Many Earth Care work orders provide same-day direct payment, including cash when cash is the specified payment method.

Earth Care does not hold your job earnings or deduct a percentage from the amount you are paid for an Earth Care work order.

Payment arrangements for independent third-party opportunities found through outside job boards or employers are determined by those third parties.

Am I really paid directly by the client?

Yes. For Earth Care work orders, the client pays you directly after the agreed work is completed. Earth Care does not process, hold, delay, or deduct a percentage from your job earnings.

The payment method and compensation for each work order are disclosed before you decide whether to accept it.

How much can I earn?

Compensation varies by project, service category, location, scope of work, and required experience.

Some qualifying smaller Earth Care work orders may pay up to $40 per service hour, while select larger projects may offer total compensation of up to $1,000 depending on the project and scope of work.

Compensation and project details are disclosed before acceptance so you can decide whether an opportunity works for you. Earth Care does not guarantee any particular hourly rate, project rate, number of jobs, or amount of earnings.

When can I work?

You choose opportunities that fit your availability. You can select your preferred travel area and decide which suitable opportunities you are willing to accept.

There is no required acceptance rate or penalty simply for declining an opportunity that does not work for your schedule, location, skills, or preferred compensation.

Can I take jobs with a friend, colleague, or significant other?

Yes. You may bring a friend, colleague, or significant other to assist you on an accepted job when appropriate, provided you remain the primary point of contact with Earth Care and the client.

You are responsible for their conduct, work quality, and compliance with applicable platform requirements while on the job.

Bringing additional help does not automatically change the compensation for the project. Some Pros choose to work with someone they trust because it can help them complete larger projects more efficiently.

Experience and Application Requirements

Do I need experience to apply?

Yes. Applicants must have prior paid experience performing services for customers in at least one service category they select.

There is no minimum number of years of experience required, and you do not need to have completed a project recently.

Earth Care's S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. training covers platform procedures, safety awareness, communication, professionalism, business skills, and related topics. It does not teach applicants how to perform the underlying trade or service category they select.

What do I need to apply?

Applicants should have prior paid customer experience in at least one selected service category and be able to travel independently to jobs they choose to accept.

Transportation may include your own vehicle, rideshare, public transportation, taxi, bicycle, or another reliable method appropriate for your location and the type of work.

Tool requirements depend on the opportunity. Skilled-service assignments may require you to have appropriate basic tools for your trade, while Helper or General Labor opportunities may require few or no personal tools.

A smartphone with reliable internet access is required to receive updates and communicate regarding opportunities.

Reliability, honesty, communication, safety awareness, professionalism, and respect for clients and their property are important qualities for Earth Care Pros.

Do I need tools to get started?

It depends on the type of work you select. Professionals performing skilled services should generally have the ordinary tools necessary to perform the work they accept.

Helper and General Labor opportunities may require few or no personal tools. Any important tool or equipment requirements should be reviewed before accepting an opportunity.

Do I need a vehicle to get started?

No. Owning a vehicle is not automatically required.

You are responsible for getting yourself to opportunities you accept. Depending on your location and the type of work, transportation may include your own vehicle, rideshare, public transportation, taxi, bicycle, walking, or another reliable transportation method.

Does a criminal record prevent me from applying or being considered?

No. A criminal record does not automatically prevent you from applying or being considered.

Applications are reviewed individually. Factors may include the nature of the offense, how long ago it occurred, evidence of rehabilitation, and whether the offense is relevant to the type of services being performed.

Applicants should provide accurate and honest information throughout the application and qualification process.

Experience and Application Requirements

Is it worth applying?

If you identify as a service professional looking for flexible ways to find additional work, it may be worth taking a few minutes to apply. The application helps us determine whether your experience, service categories, and location are a good fit for the platform.

There is no cost to apply, and being approved does not require you to activate your membership immediately. Activating is a one time fee of $47. Approved applications remain valid for up to one year, giving you time to review the program, ask questions, check for opportunities in your area, and decide whether Earth Care is right for you.

Want to check your area first? Text WORK + your ZIP code to 1-833-736-8835 and a live U.S.-based representative can check for currently posted opportunities near you.

Is there a fee to apply?

No. There is no cost to submit an application, have your eligibility reviewed, or learn more about the program and see if Earth Care is right for you

Do I need to complete an in-person interview?

No. Earth Care does not require an in-person interview. The application, orientation, onboarding, training, and verification process can be completed remotely.

After completing the applicable qualification requirements, approved Pros may begin considering suitable project opportunities as they become available.

How long does my application take to process?

After you submit your application, the initial application screening typically takes approximately 2–3 minutes. Please remain on the page and do not close or refresh your browser while the application is being processed.

Once processing is complete, qualifying applicants are automatically taken to the next step to begin orientation and continue through the qualification process.

How soon can I start taking jobs after applying?

Some experienced professionals who promptly complete all applicable qualification and onboarding requirements may be able to accept a suitable available opportunity the same day.

Same-day work is not guaranteed. Qualification time and opportunity availability vary based on the applicant, location, service category, customer demand, and availability.

What does “get started in as little as 24 hours” mean?

“Get started” refers to beginning and potentially progressing through the Earth Care application, orientation, onboarding, training, verification, and platform-access process.

It does not mean Earth Care guarantees every applicant a paid job within 24 hours.

Eligibility for Earth Care work orders requires completion of the applicable S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. qualification and onboarding requirements, and a suitable opportunity must also be available.

Why does Earth Care charge a one-time fee instead of taking a percentage of every job?

Because we believe the person doing the work should benefit from the work.

When we built Earth Care Rent A Tech, we had a choice. We could follow the traditional gig-platform model and collect a percentage every time a service professional completed a job, or we could build something different.

We chose different.

Our philosophy is simple: you shouldn't owe us more just because you worked more.

Earth Care Pros bring their skills, experience, tools, time, and effort to the customer. When you complete the work, we believe the compensation you earn from that work should remain yours rather than becoming another recurring platform fee.

That's why Earth Care uses a one-time activation fee instead of taking a percentage from your future Earth Care jobs.

Your activation provides access to the infrastructure we've built around the professional network, including onboarding, S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. training and certification resources, professional-development tools, your Pro profile, worker networking resources, the Opportunity Center, platform resources, and ongoing access to qualifying service-opportunity information.

One payment. Ongoing access. No monthly Earth Care membership fee.

But our philosophy goes beyond how we charge Pros.

We believe a business should give something back.

A portion of what Earth Care earns helps support initiatives beyond the platform itself.

Our community and environmental efforts have included supporting climate-action projects around the world, permanently removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, providing additional training and resources to homeowners and service professionals, supporting veterans nationwide, participating in local clothing drives, and completing community projects at no cost.

To date, our initiatives have helped:

Support 65+ environmental and climate projects worldwide
Permanently remove approximately 6 tons of CO₂
Give back to 800+ veterans nationwide
Provide 40+ hours of additional free workforce and homeowner training
Support local clothing drives and other community programs in areas we serve

For us, being worker-focused means more than simply connecting people with opportunities. It means trying to build a system where the people doing the work can keep what they earn, develop new skills, build greater independence, and be part of a network that gives something back to the communities around it.

Some platforms grow their revenue by taking more as their workers complete more jobs.

We decided our success shouldn't require continually taking a piece of yours.

You pay once for access to the professional ecosystem we've built. After that, we want you to use it, grow with it, and keep the value of the work you perform.

That's the kind of worker-first platform we wanted Earth Care Rent A Tech to be.

Our U.S.-based human support team can also assist with platform questions, client coordination, Earth Care work-order information, and navigating available independent opportunity resources.

These resources are designed to help Pros strengthen their professional skills, present themselves professionally, discover additional opportunities, and grow their career or independent service business.

What is S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. training?

S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. is Earth Care's training and qualification program for Pros. It covers topics such as platform procedures, safety awareness, professionalism, communication, business skills, and other resources designed to help Pros work successfully through the platform.

The program is built around more than simple platform orientation. Its curriculum incorporates information and educational material drawn from more than 90 professional, academic, government, safety, workforce-development, and industry sources, covering areas such as safety, professionalism, communication, business skills, financial literacy, artificial intelligence, sustainability, career development, and client service.

The design of the S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. program has also been the subject of scholarly publication. In 2026, a program-design article titled “From Platform Orientation to Professional Readiness: Design of the S.A.F.E.T.E.C.H. Microcredential for Independent Contractors and Service Professionals” was published in Stout in Business and Management, an international peer-reviewed academic journal. The article examines the program's curriculum structure, assessment approach, professional-readiness objectives, and quality-assurance framework.

What is the Earth Care Opportunity Center?

The Opportunity Center provides Earth Care Pros with access to professional resources that may include independent worker boards, job-search resources, apprenticeship information, worker networking groups, business tools, career resources, and available Earth Care opportunities.

Third-party boards, employers, and outside resources available through the Opportunity Center are independently operated and are not owned or controlled by Earth Care.

Why is training important if I already know my trade?

We know you know your trade and you probably been doing it for years Our training isn’t designed to teach an experienced painter how to paint, a carpenter how to build, or a cleaner how to clean. It focuses on the professional skills that can help turn great tradespeople into great independent service professionals.

As an independent pro, success requires more than technical ability. Communication, time management, customer relationships, professionalism, sales, personal branding, problem-solving, and knowing how to market yourself can all influence whether a customer calls you again, recommends you to someone else, or chooses you for their next project.

Our goal is to help you confidently communicate your value, stand out from the competition, and wow your customers both on and off the Earth Care platform. These are skills you can take with you throughout your career, whether you're completing an Earth Care opportunity, finding your own clients, or building a business of your own.

We’re not here to tell you how to do your trade. We’re here to help you show customers just how good you are at it.

Earth Care is committed to helping develop the next generation of successful tradesmen and tradeswomen by combining hands-on experience with the professional and business skills needed to build a stronger career.
